Summer OASIS (Opportunities for Autism Social Interaction Skills)
Location: 4214 Beechwood Dr., Greensboro NC 27410
(Next to Mikhael's deli/ Back side of building, 100 yards south of Lindley Habilitations Triad office)
Do you think learning and socializing can be fun and affordable? It can be!
Lindley Habilitation has partnered with Dr. Melanie Hanson, formerly of foundations2transitions, to offer quality programs to meet the unique needs of individuals within the Autism Spectrum.
Summer Camps will be held, during the following weeks, from 9 am to 3 pm.
June 28-July2 July 19-23
July 5-9 July 26-30
July 12-16 August 2-6
Cost?
$150.00 per week for 1-2 weeks; $125.00 per week for 3-4 weeks; $100.00 per week for 5-6 weeks for exceptional social programming.
*Note: Pre-camp and After-camp individualized care can be provided.

Dr. Hanson will assess individual campers for needs and provide hands-on instruction and facilitation of camp activities, in collaboration with staff that are trained and experienced -specific to the challenges and growth needs for those on the spectrum. Melanie has 25 years combined experience with children/adolescents with Mental Health/Emotional and Autism Spectrum challenges.

9:00-9:10: arrival; put lunch away; review schedule for day
9:10-9:30: Social/Communication Group (topic oriented with conversation prompts) and goal setting
9:30-10:00: Theme based reading activity; to include plays and interactive stories to build comprehension through listening and social communication; music interpretation incorporated for emotional/movement
10:00-10:30: Structured Social Skills Lessons: role plays/facilitated practice of social skills-to include assertiveness, anger management, and conflict resolution
10:30-11:00: Theme based art and science activities to promote interactions, creativity and problem solving
11:00-11:30: Structured Safety Lessons: promotes problem solving and role-playing scripts for unsafe people and situations
11:30-12:15: Lunch and Structured Leisure for sportsmanship, give and take skills, participation/interaction, and team work
12:15-2:45: Field Trip (practice of safety and social lessons in the community)
2:45-3:00: Review of camp day and goal setting

Lessons Learned
Structured Social Skills/Safety Groups:
Lessons are pulled from recognized Social Skills Curriculums. Some topic examples include:
- Introductions and starting conversations
- Greetings and courteous phrases
- Maintaining conversations
- Problem solving steps for situations
- Responses to various situations
- Conflict resolution/Assertiveness
- Anger management and Relaxation
- Dealing with bullying, drugs, etc.
- Stranger danger
- Navigating the Social World
- Safety in the Community
- And much more!
Note: Social Skills, Communication and Problem Solving are incorporated throughout all daily activities. Strategies used for teaching Social Skills in both the structured Social Skills Group and during activities are:
Explanation. Demonstration, Teacher Modeling, Peer Modeling, Prompts/Cues,
Guided Practice and Independent Practice. Lots of Role Plays and other strategies assessed
as most effective for the teaching of the skill.

Making Choices Helping others
Following rules Asking questions
Good Sportsmanship Taking turns
Social response to play Gross Motor Skill
Field Trips:
- Experience a variety of fun places to go in the community and try new things
- Facilitated practice of social skills and safety in the community as well as communication and integrations skills
