- Art: This activity gives individuals the opportunity to work on fine motor skills and create a variety of arts and crafts. They will use materials, such as feathers, colored paper, and buttons to make creatively inspired crafts and more.
- Lunch and a Movie: Individuals will be given the opportunity to come to the Lindley office to fellowship with one another while having lunch. All the individuals will bring their own bagged lunch and eat while watching a movie they have selected together. There will also be other activities for the individuals who choose not to watch the movie, such as crafts, art projects, etc.
- Bowling: This activity gives individuals a chance to work on fine and gross motor skills while interacting with other individuals. Each individual may bowl at their own pace within the allotted time frame. Bowling is a great way to meet new friends and catch up with old ones.
- Choir: Individuals use the songs provided by the activity instructor to learn lyrics and sometimes dance moves. Also, Karaoke is offered to individuals where they bring their own CD’s and learn/sing the lyrics to the songs of their choice. Individuals will also be able to select songs off of I-tunes if they are unable to bring a CD.
- Cooking: Simple recipes are used to stimulate individual’s cooking abilities. Individuals use printed directions to make simple meals. This engages listening and motor skills by working on flipping, grasping, stirring and scooping items to complete recipes. Participants are able to take the recipes home to create their own cookbook.
- Creative Movement: This activity allows for “creative” movements that individuals will enjoy. They get to use instruments, play music, and dance around the room for exercise and simple fun. The individuals are directed to move according to the song or beat of an instrument.
- Drama: This activity gives individuals the chance to present their own talents, perform and learn various plays. Individuals learn the acts gradually then have a performance at the end of the year. This activity helps individuals work on their verbal, listening and acting skills.
- Fitness Fun: This activity gives individuals a chance to move and groove. A variety of stations are set up around the room, each with a picture depicting a certain exercise. Each individual is allowed to go at their own pace and their level of mobility. There is a fun cool down exercise, such as yoga, at the end.
- Lindley Night In: At this activity, individuals bring five dollars so that they can order pizza and enjoy snacks like cookies and popcorn. Drinks are also provided, but if anyone would like to bring their own dinner, they are welcome to do so. While eating, individuals watch movies, lounge and fellowship.
- Train Ride: Lindley provides an opportunity for individuals to ride the train to Burlington, Raleigh or Charlotte throughout the year. In Burlington, the individuals get to eat lunch at Zack’s and after they have enjoyed their day out, they are picked up by vans that transport them back to the Greensboro bus/train depot. In Raleigh, they tour two museums located in downtown Raleigh and in Charlotte they get to “discover” at Discovery Place.
- Please and Thank You: This activity is designed to teach etiquette skills. Each mini lesson will involve teaching etiquette skills that apply to everyday life, such as sitting up straight, saying excuse me, proper ways to eat at a table, etc. There will be a final lesson at a local restaurant of the individuals’ choice.
- Writer’s Workshops - Silly Stories: Writer’s Workshop is an activity that gives individuals the opportunity to use their imaginations to collectively create a story about everyday topics. A story is provided for them to fill in deleted words according to a specific category. The stories are short, but very fun because the whole group gets to contribute to the story. Each individual takes a copy of the story they created home with them to enjoy.
- Pet-n-Play: This activity is centered around animal interaction. Individuals are able to learn about different animals, their behaviors and origins. They are also able to learn about how to properly care for their pets. After a small lesson, individuals are able to pet animals in a controlled environment with staff and handlers present.
- Easter Egg Hunt: Lindley staff and consumers meet at a local park where the individuals get to do Easter inspired art activities and play at the huge playground. After the individuals do activities and play, they get to hunt for Easter eggs with their staff and enjoy lots of candy.
- Fourth of July Cookout: Individuals, their families, and Lindley Habilitation staff meet at a specified park for Fourth of July festivities. Food is grilled and served buffet style for everyone. There are game booths, a piñata and of course the huge park to play on. This activity is open for all individuals and their families to enjoy.
- High Point City Lake (Triad Only): At High Point City Lake, individuals get the opportunity to ride on a boat around the lake, get unlimited rides on the train around the park, play putt-putt golf, and play on the playgrounds. During lunch individuals get to eat their bagged lunches and fellowship with others present.
- Fall Festival: This event combines a fall dance with fun activities. There are booths set up for individuals to play various games like the ring toss, cake walk, and pumpkin painting. Also there is music for the individuals to groove to on the dance floor.
- Dances: Individuals get to enjoy fun music and move and groove together at the Lindley dances. There are snacks and drinks provided.
- Winter Celebration: In December a celebration for the consumers, families and staff to enjoy together is held. Everyone comes to enjoy food, games, fun and enjoy a holiday presentation. All consumers get the opportunity to meet Santa and receive a special gift. This celebration is open to all individuals, families, and staff.
