North Carolina Interventions

Prior to beginning any NCI course, a Training Agreement must be on file for each agency attending training. Click here to download the training agreement. This will be need to be submitted prior to attending training.

NCI Prevention (6-8 hours): This class will teach you how to recognize situations in which individuals may become physically aggressive, and provide you with tools to help prevent them from escalating in their aggressive behavior. A test out option is available for recertification provided that certification has not expired. 80% on written test required to pass. Valid for 1 year.

NCI Core (6-8 hours): NCI Prevention is a prerequisite. In this class you will learn how to protect yourself if your client physically attacks you. This class focuses on blocking punches and releasing if the client grabs you, pulls hair, and chokes you. 100% on demonstration test required to pass. Valid for 1 year.

NCI Core+ (per techniques needed): NCI Prevention and Core are prerequisites. This class builds on techniques taught Core. Here you will learn how to properly place your client in therapeutic holds and also how to safely walk your client to a safer place. 100% on demonstration test required to pass. Valid for 1 year.

American Red Cross Courses

Adult/Child CPR (4-5 hours): This course will teach participants how to perform CPR and other life saving care to individuals over age 1. 80% required on written test to pass. Valid for 1 year.

Adult/Child CPR Online (Approx. 3-4 hours total): This course will allow participants to learn the same skills listed above utilizing a web based course. Participants will need to successfully complete the online component by scoring 80% or better on the test. If successful, participants will attend the skills assessment class, which takes approximately 1-2 hours. Participants will need to register for a skills assessment class to gain access to the online component. Valid for 1 year.

First Aid (2 hours): This course will teach participants how to provide basic first aid care in an emergency situation. Topics covered include severe bleeding, burns, broken bones, and heat and cold related emergencies. 80% required on written test to pass. Valid for 3 years)

First Aid Online (Approx. 1.5-2 hours total): This course will allow participants to learn the same skills listed above utilizing a web based course. Participants will need to successfully complete the online component by scoring 80% or better on the test. If successful, participants will attend the skills assessment class, which takes approximately 30 minutes to 1 hour. Participants will need to register for a skills assessment class to gain access to the online component. Valid for 3 years.

Bloodborne Pathogens: This course will help you learn what types of safety concerns you should will providing care to a victim. This course will help teach you how to prevent disease transmission and what to do if you are exposed contaminant. Valid for 1 year. This course is available online.
